Planes, Trains, Automobiles & Ships

This has been a wonderful year of travel for me. Before the pandemic, there was never a time that Steve and I didn’t have a trip planned. When we got home from one place, we always had something to look forward to and 2020-2022 were very hard years for us. In 2019, we took a river cruise from Paris to Normandy and that was our last big trip. I definitely made up for lost time this year.

Planes:
I was on 24 planes this past year, taking me to and from Washington state to Denver, Orlando, Raleigh, Chicago, Alaska, California, Germany and Hungary. I watched a lot of movies and read a lot of books, during these plane rides. And those planes took me to weddings, cruises, train rides and amusement parks.

Trains:
Steve loves a train and this was a banner year for him. We took a 10 hour train ride from Denali National Park to Whittier Alaska to board our 7 day Alaska cruise. The train was beautiful and the ride was scenic. One of our excursions on the cruise was a train ride over the White Pass Summit, which took us to Skagway, Alaska. This was a rustic train and a fun journey. Then in July, for Steve’s surprise birthday gift, we took a weekend trip on Amtrak’s Southwest Chief, riding from Chicago to LA, through the American West. This 44 hour ride took us through Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Iowa, Colorado and Arizona. This is a weekend I will never forget. And to end the year, we took a holiday train ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad in Colorado to see Santa.

Automobiles:
We did take one road trip this year to spend Mother’s Day weekend in Leavenworth, WA, a Bavarian themed town. This quaint village is about 3 hours from our home and was fun to see Bavarian food, beer and crafts.

Ships:
At the beginning of the year, Steve and I had 2 cruises planned: Alaska in June for our anniversary and my company’s conference from LA to Mexico in September. As the year progressed, we added 2 Disney cruises and I went on an AmaWaterways River Cruise alone in July. Each ship was very different and so much fun! Cruising is a great way to get away, relax and sightsee.

At this point, we only have 1 trip planned for 2023. But I am starting to work on a 35th Anniversary trip for us this summer. And I’m sure as the year progresses, we will add more adventures to our calendar.
