I did it!

I’m back and my trip was perfect! All 4 of my flights were on-time, every private driver I hired was on-time and my ship did not have to change its itinerary due to low water levels on the river. And this was my first international solo trip, which forced me to make friends with others on the cruise.

I spent last week on a “Seminar At Sea” on AmaWaterways AmaMagna sailing from Germany to Austria, Slovakia and ending in Budapest, Hungary. I spent a day in Salzburg, touring many of the Sound of Music sites and seeing Mozart’s home. I visited the beautiful Melk Abbey. I took a city tour in Vienna, went to the Schönbrunn Palace and had tea and Sacher Torte at the Famous Hotel Sacher. And I finished the cruise by taking a “Queen of the Danube” Tour in Budapest. I ate, drank, shopped and learned all about AmaWaterways and their amazing ships.

Here are some of the highlights of a rivercruise on AmaWaterways:

  • AmaMagna is is twice the width of traditional European river ships and offers more personal space.

  • AmaWaterways offers a variety of included excursions at every port for every activity level. AmaWaterways is known for having bikes on all of their ships, so at every port, as long as conditions are right, a biking tour is provided. Strenuous hikes are available as well. And either walking tours or bus tours are also provided and there are even accommodations for people who need gentle activities. All tours are led by locals, so you get the true feel for each location.

  • AmaMagna had wonderful. local entertainment in the evenings. The first night, we had an “Oktoberfest” celebration led by the Queen of Beer. One evening we walked to a local winery and had a wine tasting and were entertained by a local singer. Another evening 2 women did a Broadway style musical show. We spent one evening visiting a castle and on our last night, Hungarian performers put on a dance show. And every night, there was live music and dancing.

  • Sip and Sail is a well-known event on AmaWaterways. This cocktail hour is right before dinner and you are treated to free cocktails. This time not only allows you to drink, but to socialize with other passengers.

  • AmaMagna has 4 restaurants to choose from onboard. The main restaurant has open seating and offers local food and wine options. Al Fresco has breakfast and lunch and a Mediteranean menu for dinner. Jimmy’s is a family style option and the Chef’s Table offers a 7 course food and wine pairing menu. All of these restaurants are available at no extra cost.

  • Sun-deck pool and whirlpool available for relaxing and refreshing.

  • Zen Wellness Studio offers fitness classes, massages and a refreshing juice bar.

I love rivercruising so much that I am planning a Group Christmas Market Cruise on AmaCerto from December 12-19, 2023 and there are still staterooms available. If you have ever thought of sailing on the rivers, please contact me to discuss.
